Tactical battle between the champion and the challenger
The fight was highly competitive from the very first seconds. Tsarukyan showcased improved striking technique and stunned Makhachev several times on the feet. However, the champion responded with his signature takedowns and dominated in ground-and-pound.
That was my toughest fight in the UFC. Arman has gotten much stronger since our first encounter.

Judges disagreed in their opinions.
After five rounds, the judges delivered a controversial decision: 48-47, 47-48, 49-46 in favor of Makhachev. Many experts noted that Tsarukyan deserved at least a draw, especially considering his effectiveness in striking during the first three rounds.
This was the second meeting between the fighters—in 2019, Makhachev defeated Tsarukyan by unanimous decision. Over the years, the Armenian fighter has significantly improved and proven he deserves a title shot.
After the fight, Dana White confirmed that the next contender will be the winner of the Poirier-Gaethje bout. Makhachev announced his readiness for his next defense in the summer of 2026.
